Did you know that a whopping 36.5% of US households have at least one dog?
We love our dogs, and we know that owners are focused on providing the best dog lifestyle possible.
But is your dog living their healthiest life? Improve their well-being with these 5 tips for a healthy dog lifestyle.
Routine Vet Check-Ups
Somehow, dogs always know when you’re about to take them to the vet – and it’s suddenly very hard to find them.
Once you’ve found where they’re hiding, a regular checkup is really important for their health. They’ll need vaccinations when they’re little, to protect them against viruses and parasites.
When they’re a bit older, about once a year is right – unless you’ve noticed that they seem to be having problems. When they’re a senior dog (7 years or older), bring that up to every six months.
Change Their Water Very Regularly
Your pet needs to stay hydrated throughout the day to maintain a healthy dog lifestyle, just like you. But if you leave water in their bowl for too long, it could get stagnant and make them sick.
Change it at least once daily, and top it up if they’re running low. Don’t wait for it to run out completely, as it’s hard for dogs to get the last drops – they can’t pick it up!
So make sure they’ve got fresh, clean water in a topped up clean bowl at all times. Please don’t let them drink from the toilet, and discourage this behavior as part of their puppy training. Better yet, don’t give them access to the bathroom.
Time for Walkies
All dogs love walks. But puppies get tired quickly, and if they are exercised relentlessly it can cause long-term problems such as hip dysplasia. Don’t push them too hard – pick them up and carry them if they’re struggling.
Older dogs can be taken out on long hikes, and most medium to large breeds will love this. Bigger, more muscular dogs like German Shepherds and Great Danes need lots of exercise to keep them fit and healthy, and it’s up to you to meet their needs.
Dogs which don’t get exercised enough can become frustrated and moody. Keep them in good spirits in the great outdoors.
Give Your Dog Multivitamin Supplements
Multivitamin tablets can help to give your dog all the nutrients they need.
They can keep them strong and healthy, and act as a supplement to a regular good diet. Depending on your dog, the food you’re giving them might fall short of their breed’s requirements. Multivitamins can ‘top up’ any shortfall.
