You know those essential oils you bought?
Pure, organic essential oil isn’t cheap. But you wanted the best so that you could work your way into a healthier lifestyle that didn’t require all the store-bought chemicals.
So you selected them carefully. You did your homework.
You learned that lavender is amazing for stress relief, Roman chamomile will help you sleep, and that citrus varieties improve your focus. You bought them all. You even bought a few extras like bergamot and ylang ylang just because you love the way they make you feel every morning when they’re being pumped out of your diffuser.
Are those the same essential oils rattling around in a drawer somewhere in your bathroom or nightstand?
If so, you’re not just doing your investment a disservice—you’re doing yourself a disservice.
You need an essential oil case. Not just any case, the right one.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind
The major problem with not having a proper organizational system for your essential oils is this: you’re far less likely to use them. The old phrase “out of sight, out of mind” absolutely applies here.
Think about it. Essential oils can be used for so many things, like DIY lotions, bug sprays, shampoos, and much, much more. If your essential oils are disorganized and tucked away in some dark corner, the odds of you using the store-bought stuff increases dramatically.
If your goal is to start moving away from chemical-filled off the shelf products, you must have easy access to your oils. Don’t give yourself any excuses.
The Right Essential Oil Case Means Using Your Oils
The easiest way to make sure that you’re using your oils rather than “planning on using them” is to get an essential oil case.
Beware—not all essential oil cases are made the same. Just because something is cheap doesn’t mean it’s bad, and just because something is super-expensive doesn’t mean it’s automatically good.
The features of the essential oil case are what really matter. Here’s what to look out for:
- The case has enough room for all your oils.
- The case is travel-ready, likely meaning that it has some kind of padding to protect your oils on a bumpy car ride.
- The case is durable enough for you to confidently say that it’ll last at least 5 years.
- The lid of the case can stay open at 90 degrees, meaning that you can display your oils without taking up a ton of desk space
- You think that the case looks good. If you like it, you’re more likely to use it!
The first point on that list is noteworthy: take inventory of your current collection, allow for some growth (usually 5-10 new varieties) and you’ll know the minimum amount of oils that your new case should be able to contain. For small collections, you’ll want at least 16. The average essential oil user should have about 35, and enthusiasts may need over 80 slots.
Organization is Key
Once you have the right case, it’s time to get organized. Take some time to look through your oils, placing your most frequently used ones toward the front of the case. Next, think carefully about where to place the case in your home. Kitchens, living rooms, and bedrooms are all great options as long as you have easy access.
