1. Get Organized

First, you’ll need some quality scissors. Clear off some space on an office desk surface and consider investing in a binder or coupon organizer.

An organizer is a good idea because coupons shoved into a purse or wallet can easily get lost or torn.

Paper clips are always a good idea, too.

Make sure you have a recycling system setup for any excess paper that results from your clipping.

2. Identify Your Home Needs and Budget

Before you start happily clipping away, make sure you spend some serious time identifying your monthly home expenses.

Look at past credit card statements and utility bills when researching your average monthly expenses. Total everything that comes from the grocery store or other brick-and-mortar institutions.

Next, develop a budget. Some people are comfortable going with their average expense output, while others need to rein it in a little bit.

Don’t just set a general expense budget. Identify the numbers you’re capable of spending for given categories, including food and kitchen, home improvement, eating out, gas and transportation, and health expenses.

Next, maximize your savings by figuring out when any of these items are on sale. You can do this by calling the store itself, researching online, or dropping by to check prices.
